The Student Association is run for students. Our activities are designed to enhance the learning experience of all FVC students.
Class Representatives (CRs) play a vital role in these activities. Their contributions are recognised and valued across the college.
The main responsibilities of Class Reps include:
- Sharing important information with their classmates
- Attending meetings organised by the FVSA
- Voting on key issues at Student Council meetings
- Ensuring that any concerns raised by students are addressed
So far this year, we’ve welcomed 213 registered Class Reps, with 50% attending Class Rep training. The training is designed to empower students, build confidence, and support their development in the role.
Here is some feedback from class reps who attended meetings:
Victoria Mielczarek - Class Rep and Executive Officer: For me, being a class rep means that I can help other people feel more comfortable talking to me if they have any issues with anything. It was quite beneficial attending the meeting as it provided more insights into what is expected from us and the support available.
Mamoun Ramadan - Class Rep and Executive Officer: Being a class rep means you speak for your classmates. You collect their feedback - what is good and what needs to improve - and share it with teachers or staff in meetings. You also give your class updates, like changes to timetables, assessments, or college rules. You help make the course better for everyone, not just yourself. You make sure students are listened to and that the college keeps improving. Meetings are useful because you can share feedback directly with Student Association, hear news and updates from senior management team, and meet other reps and feel more part of college life I prefer in-person meetings. They help me feel more confident and connected. Talking face-to-face makes it easier to share ideas.
Amy Muir - Class Rep and Executive Officer: To me being a class rep means representing my classmates and ensuring their voices and opinions are heard. I found the training useful as it helped me understand what is expected of me as a class representative.
Monika Smith – Vice President: This was an unforgettable experience for me. Firstly, thank you to all of you who attended It was a really good day. I build up my confidence and team working skills. I am looking forward to collaborate with you to achieve higher goals.
Rob McDermott - Head of Quality, Teaching and Enhancement: In terms of partnership working between the college and our students, the Class Representative role is crucial. It is one of the most important ways that we can get feedback from our learners but also more importantly it can, where nurtured, really lead to meaningful working together to improve the student experience.
Kasia Slapek – Student Engagement Coordinator: We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has taken the time to attend meetings. This commitment shows how much students care about their learning experience and their willingness to represent their peers. It’s a fantastic example of partnership between the Student Voice and the institution.
