VTCT Introduction to Hair and Beauty (Schools)
***PLEASE NOTE - only pupils who will be at school during session 2026/27 can apply for this course***
Designed to build on the candidates’ interest and passion for the Hair and Beauty Industry, an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector provides candidates with an ideal, practical introduction to prepare them for further learning or training.
Candidates will have the choice to work through a selection of individual units from Hair / Beauty or both. These will be selected once enrolled on the course to suits individual needs.
Candidates may achieve individual units within the programme
The practical elements of the course are salon based and candidates will be assessed through demonstrating techniques on their peers. There is an equal amount of time spent in the classroom where candidates will learn underpinning knowledge to support the practical units as well as working towards non-practical based units, for example Health and Safety.
Units are also assessed by assignments where candidates will have to research topics using IT and textbooks. Candidates should be able to complete coursework in college however there may be times when they will have to do additional work at home. All candidates must be able to work in a team and must wear appropriate PPE whilst in salons. They must also follow salon rules in relation to appropriate dress code for both hair and beauty salons and follow the college’s code of conduct.
This course will run on Tuesday & Thursday 2.00pm - 4.00pm or Friday 2.00pm - 4.00pm at Alloa

Please note that the course you are applying for is split across two sessions. When submitting your application, the dates displayed will be for the June Induction in session 2025/26. Once successfully enrolled on this session, you will automatically be transferred to the 2026/27 session, which begins in August, for the remainder of the course.

Entry requirements
- There are no mandatory academic entry requirements for this course
- Although there are no formal academic qualifications required, pupils should have a keen interest in either Hair or Beauty which should be noted on application
- Schools should be confident that pupils are capable of studying at this level
