VTCT Hairdressing Level Two

This course develops the skills and knowledge for a career in hairdressing and the service industries. Students will develop competence and efficiency in all aspects of hairdressing and the ability and confidence to meet the needs of the hairdressing industry.

Students will be able to enhance their hairdressing skills by participating in a work placement one day per week.

Year 1:

  • Consult, assess, plan and prepare for hairdressing (Year 1 & 2)
  • Implement and maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices
  • Shampoo, condition and treat hair and scalp
  • Set, style and dress hair
  • Dry, style and finish hair using hairdressing techniques
  • Instruct and advise on products and services

Year 2:

  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Cut and clipper hair using hairdressing techniques
  • Participation in college commercial salon

  • Employment within the hairdressing industry

  • VRQ Level 3 Hairdressing

  • National 4 award (or equivalent) in English
  • Applicants who do not meet these criteria, but have relevant experience or alternative qualifications will be considered

Additional Requirements:

  • Selection will be by interview and task
  • Due to awarding body registration requirements, applicants for this course must be aged 16 or over before 1 October

Requirements for progression to year 2:

  • Achievement of all first year units
  • Excellent attendance and timekeeping
  • Excellent work placement reference

• If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview. For January start courses interviews will be in Nov/Dec and interviews for August start courses will take place between February and May
• If your application is unsuccessful, you will be offered support in finding a suitable alternative course
