Access to Computing

This course is for anyone who is considering a career in the IT industry. It provides students with a taste of the different specialities within computing, including computer hardware, cyber security and programming. This engaging course will use Raspberry Pis to help candidates develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge. As part of this course, students will have the opportunity to achieve Vendor Certification, which is highly respected by employers.

  • National 5 Computing (units only)
  • CompTIA IT Fundamentals
  • Computer Hardware
  • Social Media Literacy
  • Maths and Communications Units

  • NC Computing with Cyber Security

One of the following:

• Three National 4 awards (or equivalent) including Maths, English and Computing Science
• Applicants who do not meet these criteria, but have relevant experience or alternative qualifications will be considered
Additional requirements:
• An interview will form part of the selection process

• Disclosing support needs in your application will not affect your chances of being offered a place on a course at Forth Valley College
• If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview. For January start courses interviews will be in Nov/Dec and interviews for August start courses will take place between February and May
• If your application is unsuccessful, you will be offered support in finding a suitable alternative course
• Applicants who provide a mobile phone number on their application form will be sent a text reminder prior to the day of interview
