Graduation FAQ's
Am I eligible to graduate? In order to be eligible to graduate, you must have completed a qualification at SCQF Level 7 or above
I don’t want to come along to the ceremony, do I still need to register? If you decide you do not want to attend your graduation, you do not need to register.
Can I attend another ceremony? Unfortunately you can only attend the ceremony you are invited to.
How do I get my guest tickets? The EventBrite order confirmation you receive covers your Graduate ticket and allocated Guest tickets. If you have requested additional tickets, we will be in touch on Wednesday 1 October to confirm if these are available.
When does Registration, Gowning & Photography open/close? Registration, gowning and photography will open two hours before your ceremony commences. It will close 30 minutes prior to the ceremony beginning but will re-open afterwards.
Do I need to hire a gown and book photography? No, gowning and photography is optional and entirely up to the student. You can hire a gown and book photography on the day if you change your mind.
What should I expect on the day? You will be asked to be seated 30 minutes prior to your ceremony commencing. Graduates will have an allocated seat and you must ensure you sit in the correct seat. The ceremony will include an address from the Principal, presentation of certificates, presentation of any special awards and a keynote speech from our guest speaker Once your ceremony concludes, there will be a drinks reception for graduates and guests in the Antonine Suite.
How long will the ceremony last? Each ceremony should last around one hour and fifteen minutes. After this ends, you will be invited to a drinks reception at the Antonine Suite.
Will I receive a certificate at graduation? On the day of your graduation, you will receive a commemorative college certificate. Any official certificates will be sent to you directly from the awarding body.
What should I do if me or my guests have accessibility needs? If you or any of your guests require additional assistance or support for the event please provide this information when registering. Please identify who needs the additional support and the type of support required. Any queries, please email graduation@forthvalley.ac.uk.
What happens if I’m ill or unable to attend on the day? If you are unable to attend your graduation ceremony on the day, please contact graduation@forthvalley.ac.uk to let us know.
Can I bring my children with me? Children are permitted to attend however, please note they will require a guest ticket (Under 2s do not require a guest ticket and must sit on an adults knee).
What should I wear? There is no particular dress code, however, most graduates and guests opt for smart casual. If wearing a graduation gown, it can be helpful to wear something with a button to attach your hood to or to bring along a safety pin.
Where can I park? Parking will be limited on campus and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Overflow parking will also be available at the Falkirk Stadium for graduates and guests, if required. Please leave enough time to get here on time as the stadium is around a 5-10 minute walk. After the ceremony, please do not leave your car in the car park.
I have missed the deadline to register and wish to attend, what do I do? We always do our best to accommodate graduates wherever possible. However, attendance may be limited due to venue capacity or if seating plans have already been finalised. In cases where we’re unable to offer a place at this year’s ceremony, we’ll keep a record of your details and extend an invitation to attend the graduation ceremony the following year.
