Wednesday 1st October 2025

Forth Valley College’s new £4million Skills Transition Centre (STC) took part in the Lock 16 Community Open Day on Saturday 20 September, engaging with over 500 local residents and organisations to promote training opportunities in future-focused industries, including green energy.

Hosted by Scottish Canals and Historic Environment Scotland, the event celebrated the transformation of the Forth & Clyde Canal area into a vibrant hub for heritage skills, volunteering, and local employment. The STC’s presence highlighted its role in supporting Scotland’s Just Transition by helping people upskill and reskill for sustainable careers in emerging sectors.

As a flagship project within the Falkirk and Grangemouth Growth Deal, the STC is expected to contribute to over 1,660 new jobs and generate £628 million in economic benefit over the next decade.

Laura Fraser, STC Project Manager at Forth Valley College, said: “We were delighted to attend the Lock 16 Community Open Day as a key Growth Deal partner, connecting with the local community and raising awareness of the Skills Transition Centre.

“It was also a great opportunity to highlight our collaboration with Scottish Canals - while they are focusing on traditional and heritage skills, the STC is leading on digital and future-ready skills, creating a balanced and forward-looking approach to workforce development across the region.”
