Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus was the destination for a group of senior officials from the Oman Authority for Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQA) on Thursday 24 September.
The international delegation was on a study visit to Scotland, to celebrate 25 years of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).
The Oman Authority for Quality Assurance of Education is an independent national institution established in 2010, to develop and ensure the quality of higher education in the Sultanate of Oman by monitoring and evaluating the performance of higher education institutions and their academic programs. OAAAQA also accredits institutions to ensure their outcomes meet international standards and align with labour market needs, contributing to a knowledge-based economy.
Organised by the SCQF the delegation included the Director General of the National Qualifications Framework, Director of Listing and Alignment Support Department, and a Senior National Qualification Expert, and was formally welcomed by Jamie Allan, FVC’s Global Partnership Manager, who delivered an overview presentation on the College before leading them on a tour of the facilities.
Following the tour, Jamie was joined by colleagues Chris Nisbet, Assistant Client Manager from FVC’s Apprenticeship Team, and Suzanne Galloway, FVC’s Learning, Teaching and Quality Manager, who gave presentations on their respective areas of specialism.
The SCQF team included Paul White, Lead: International and Ghayoor Abbas, Head of Assurance.
The SCQF is recognised as one of the world’s most established national qualifications frameworks. It supports lifelong learning across schools, colleges, universities, community learning and the workplace. With more than 10,000 qualifications included, the framework offers a coherent and trusted approach that continues to influence policy and practice internationally.
Following the visit, the SCQF noted that the delegates were “thoroughly impressed as always” on their “great visit”, whilst the OAAAQA expressed particular enthusiasm to follow up on FVC’s green skills expertise to support their work.
Jamie Allan, FVC’s Global Partnerships Manager, said: “Firstly, I’m extremely thankful to Paul and Ghayoor from the SCQF for once again choosing to bring a prestigious international delegation to FVC as the only college visit during their time in Scotland, which is testament to the globally leading reputation we have now developed in the sector. Secondly, I’d like to thank my colleagues Chris and Suzanne for their time and presentations, which met the specific request of the delegation and what they wanted to learn about from us.
“These visits reflect the incredible work going on in the College and it’s always a privilege to be able to showcase the great job that FVC colleagues are doing day in day out to international guests. With specific interest piqued by our green skills expertise, I look forward to progressing discussions with the OAAAQA in the near future.”
