Kenny MacInnes, Principal of Forth Valley College, said: “The Auditor General’s Report on Scotland’s Colleges reinforces the urgent need for change across the college sector in Scotland. The findings reflect the reality we are facing - a 20% real-terms cut in funding over the past five years, rising costs, and increasing pressure to do more with less.
“Despite these challenges, we continue to deliver high-quality education and training, with strong student satisfaction and positive outcomes. However, the report makes clear that the current model is not sustainable. Like many colleges, we have already had to make difficult decisions to balance our budget, and we are now having to consider a reduction in our campus footprint, with options currently being explored regarding our Alloa Campus.
“These steps are not taken lightly, but they are necessary to protect the opportunities we provide for learners and employers across the region.
“We remain committed to serving our communities effectively and to supporting Scotland’s economy. But without significant change and investment, the ability of colleges to meet the needs of students, staff, and industry will be increasingly at risk.”
