Kenya Trade Mission opens doors to strategic partnerships for FVC

Forth Valley College has taken a significant step in strengthening its global reach following a recent fact finding trip to Kenya, supported by the Scottish Africa Business Association, and held from 12–16 May 2025. 

Represented by Jamie Allan, FVC’s Global Partnership Manager, the College engaged with a number of high-profile organisations to explore opportunities for international collaboration in vocational and technical education.

As part of the visit, Forth Valley College held constructive meetings with the British Council, British Chamber of Commerce in Kenya, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), Pitman Training Group, Graduate Guidance Group, Overseas Placement Consultants, the British High Commission, and the UK Department for Business and Trade.

The trip was designed to build strategic relationships that align with Kenya’s ambitions in skills development and workforce readiness, while showcasing Forth Valley College’s reputation as one of Scotland’s leading institutions for further and higher education.

Jamie Allan said: “Kenya is a country with huge potential, particularly in its young and dynamic workforce. The organisations we met were clear in their desire to partner with world-class institutions to help deliver industry-relevant training and education. Forth Valley College is ideally placed to contribute, bringing experience in vocational excellence, digital innovation and curriculum development.”

Discussions throughout the week centred on creating pathways for joint programmes, staff and student exchange, capacity building for trainers and potential involvement in government and industry-led skills initiatives.

The College’s strong emphasis on employer engagement and its track record in aligning education with industry needs, resonated with the priorities of organisations such as NITA and KAM, who are actively seeking partnerships to help bridge the country’s skills gap.

The British Council and British High Commission in Nairobi expressed their support for deeper collaboration between the Scottish and Kenyan education sectors, highlighting Forth Valley College’s potential to contribute meaningfully to this agenda.

Jamie added: “This visit has laid the foundation for exciting opportunities in Kenya. We look forward to progressing these conversations and developing partnerships that deliver real impact – both for learners and industry – while supporting our global ambitions as a College.
