Sound Production and Events Management students travelled to Glasgow’s famous Barrowlands Ballroom venue recently, for a question and answer event focussing on the live entertainment industry.
Titled ‘DF Academy’ and organised by DF Concerts, who also run the TRNSMT festival and the iconic King Tuts venue, the FVC students were treated to three Q and A panel talks from industry professionals with valuable advice on how people can enter into and work in the industry.
The 10 first and second year HND Sound Production students who attended, also spent a fair bit of time at the Ad Lib – a well-known Glasgow based PA hire company - stand using some of the live sound equipment they brought and had setup.
FVC Sound Production Lecturer, Peter Flett, said: “This was a fantastic event for our guys to see how the learning they already have, has prepared them for entry into the industry. I think the advice given by people who have worked in the jobs for decades was also useful to give them a better understanding of what attributes you need to do the job in the real world.”
The HND Event Management students who attended were Hannah Kerrigan, Hannah Kane, and Luke Ryce.
Events Management Lecturer Christopher Foote, said: “It was great to see so many employment opportunities for those looking to gain experience in the events sector, and the visit really highlighted the extensive industry pathways available to our learners and how vibrant the events sector currently is in Scotland.”
