Germany’s Goethe Institut Careers Roadshow attracts hundreds of high school pupils

Hundreds of high school pupils and university students from across Scotland descended on Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus for the only Scottish stop in the Careers Roadshow organised by the Goethe Institut.

Held on Thursday 24 September, the event organised by Falkirk Council in partnership with the Goethe Institut, attracted dozens of schools from all over the country and was attended by Germany’s Consul General Christiane Hullmann and Falkirk Council’s Director of Education Services Jon Reid.

The Goethe-Institut, Germany’s cultural institute, operates worldwide, promoting knowledge of the German language abroad and fostering international cultural collaborations. Their cultural and educational programmes offer an opportunity to engage with themes and questions relevant to contemporary German culture and society. Faced with the challenges of globalisation, they aim to strengthen intercultural dialogue and a global civil society.

The event included various employer and educational information stalls from the likes of Bosch, University of Stirling, University of Aberdeen, the Falkirk District Twinning Association, the British German Association and the British Council, who are now the UK’s delivery partner for the Erasmus+ programme, which the College hopes to participate in once again. The event also organised lectures, workshops and presentations for attendees to engage with and find out more about learning German and studying and working in Germany. 

FVC’s Jamie Allan, Global Partnership Manager, was also delighted to attend the event and strengthen the College’s links with German stakeholders, especially following a visit from a Dresden College group the previous week.

I believe the event, organised by Falkirk Council, was a tremendous success with feedback from participants indicating how impressed they were with our campus and staging of the roadshow.”
