Creative Industries lecturer Gabriele Jogelaite has been awarded a prize at the 200th Annual Exhibition held in the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) in Edinburgh for a remarkable sculpture.

The 200th edition of the Annual Exhibition - running from 9 May -14 June, and free to enter - is a melting pot of contemporary art from across Scotland and further afield, with all artworks shown side by side in the Academy’s grand Neoclassical galleries in the heart of Edinburgh. The show allows visitors to explore a vast array of creative practice under one roof. With hundreds of artworks available to purchase, many at affordable prices, the RSA Annual Exhibition is a brilliant opportunity for visitors to grow their art collections.

This year’s Exhibition Convenor is artist Annie Cattrell RSA, assisted by Architecture Convenor Fergus Purdie RSA. The 200th Annual Exhibition - Overview | Royal Scottish Academy

Gabriele’s brilliant sculpture titled ‘Hatched’ – a bronze piece in two parts - was recognised at the event on Friday 8 May. The RSA Ottillie Helen Wallace £250 monetary prize will help her to invest into making more 3D work which could inspire her students.

Gabriele, who is pictured here at the exhibition with her sculpture, said: “I am very humbled to receive this recognition. It gives me feedback and contributes towards my creative motivation, it has been a while since I had won an award.

“I found the sea urchin in my Forth Valley Colleague Trevor Griffin’s art and design technician’s room and with his permission I later made a plaster and silicone mould from which the sculpture was cast in wax. I work in the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, which provided me the facilities to cast the object in bronze in 2025.”

Gabriele is also involved in another exhibition with FVC Creative Industries Lecturing colleague Michelle Letowska and FVC Printmaking Technician Neil Kellas, called ‘Downtime’, which started on Wednesday 13 May and will run until 28 July at Detour Expresso, 39 Argyle Place, Edinburgh.
