FVC celebrates STEM @ The Helix event

Monday 12th May 2025

Pupils from five local primary schools got stuck into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths experiments at a recent Forth Valley College event to help celebrate STEM @ The Helix 2025.

The Falkirk Campus Antonine Suite was the venue for more than 80 enthusiastic youngsters on Friday 9 May, as FVC students and lecturers from the Department of STEM and Construction guided the pupils through various experiments.

The workshop was organised as part of the annual Helix Park event (which took place on Saturday 10 May), which is a locally led partnership project that celebrates STEM and was developed by Falkirk Community Trust, Falkirk Council and Forth Valley College.

STEM@The Helix is a free event, filled with interactive workshops, experiments and insights. It celebrates young minds and encourages Scots, visitors and families alike to explore the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths. The Helix was transformed into a hub of discovery on Saturday with a full programme of activity taking place across the park.

Fiona Jackson, Curriculum Manager in FVC’s Department of STEM and Construction, said: “It was great to welcome an excellent group of students all keen to get stuck into the experiments and workshops on offer on the day, including windmill building, rocket building, and wheelbarrow building!

“STEM @ The Helix is fantastic event and we are delighted to be able to support it. Our lecturers and current students were also delighted to help out and help to encourage and inspire the next generation of STEM based students, who could well look to apply for courses here at Forth Valley College in the near future.”
