Fringe Festival experience to start off Events Management course

Tuesday 1st September 2026

An experience of the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival was in store for HND Events Management students, on only the second day of their new course recently.

They were given the opportunity to visit the ‘Fringe’, and to take-in first-hand one of the world's greatest celebrations of arts and culture.

During the visit, students explored key Fringe venues and locations, enjoyed street theatre performances, and attended a live show. They were also welcomed to Fringe Central, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society's new home, where Kirsty Fraser, Artist Development Manager at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, provided a tour and shared some of the highlights from this year's festival, which features over 4,000 shows.

Reflecting on the visit, Kirsty said: "It was fantastic to meet the students and hear how much they enjoyed their experience at the Fringe."

Students were accompanied by lecturers Chris Foote and Michal Tomaszewski, who highlighted the value of the experience for the new cohort.

Chris Foote, said: "A huge thank you to Kirsty and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society for making the students feel so welcome. The learning gained from today's visit will be invaluable in helping to inform their studies and projects throughout the year."

Michal, added: “The visit provided students with an early insight into the planning, organisation, and delivery of a major international event, helping them connect classroom learning with real-world industry practice.”

Ieva Vaisiauskaite, HND Events Management student, said: “I really enjoyed the trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It was a great opportunity to see how such a huge event operates behind the scenes, and it made me even more excited about studying Events Management. It was also lovely to spend time with everyone and get to know the group better.”
