David Crossley – a professional artist and one of Forth Valley College’s Additional Support Worker’s – has once again put his public art creative talent to good use by spray painting a design for one of the statues on Glasgow’s Maggie's Scottie Dog Trail charity summer visitor attraction.
David Crossley, who is based mainly in the Stirling Campus, entered an artist call to put design proposals in for possible selection for the Maggie’s Centre cancer charity, and his Nature Reclaims design was selected.
Now his work forms part of a pack of 40 giant Scottie sculptures (and 52 wee ones!) which has come to Glasgow, to raise awareness of Maggie’s and the support the charity provides people with cancer and their friends and family.
The Scotties in the City art trail is open until 16 August and each Scottie on the trail is unique, designed and painted by talented artists and sponsored by local businesses. For more information visit https://scottiesinthecity.co.uk/
David, said: “I entered an artist call for Maggie's Scottie Dog Trail in Glasgow and my design ‘Nature Reclaims’ was selected and sponsored by MLA Architects. This was my first time painting a 3D sculpture and it had its challenges.
“Painting on a curved surface with a paint brush is hard, but trying to do it with an airbrush is difficult. My design focuses on how resilient nature is. Sites can be cleared away to make room for industry, but when it no longer has a use and is left abandoned, nature will slowly reclaim what is left. Birds and insects move in and then foxes and more.
“Green spaces are becoming fewer around our towns and cities now, so nature is also forced into them. Foxes, deer and hedgehogs are commonplace now in the lives of our homes and towns.
“It is a huge honour to have been selected to showcase my work for such an amazing charity and the trail. The trail goes through the city highlighting areas of interest whilst allowing you to collect the individual Scotties on the Scottie's in the city app. It makes for a great day out.”
