Art and Design degree students at Forth Valley College are now ‘Ard at work’ creating designs that could be chosen to be made into artwork for a popular sculpture trail, within the Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park.

The students have been commissioned to produce designs for sculptures to be added to the Loch Ard Sculpture Trail, and up to three of their designs will be selected to go to production and installation following the initial project.

Gill Walker from Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) visited the Stirling Campus on Thursday 10 September to brief BA Art & Design second year Students on the live project that FLS are funding.

Linda Paterson, FVC’s Curriculum Manager in the Department of Creative, Digital and Leisure Industries, said: “All the students involved will take part in the project by researching the brief, developing and producing designs and maquettes, before taking their ideas in front of a panel of judges from FLS and the College. The work produced to this stage forms part of the student’s coursework.

“Up to three designs will then be selected to go forward to production/fabrication and installed as part of the Sculpture Trail. The Sculpture trail to date has six sculptures by Drymen Artist Rob Mulholland, commissioned and installed a number of years ago.

“Rob was kind enough to host a visit to his Arcadia Sculpture Centre studio for the students a few weeks ago to give them an insight into how the process works (see photos in carousel). A site visit to Loch Ard is planned within the next few weeks to allow the students to walk the trail and select specific sites for their sculptures.”
