Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band – who have close links with Forth Valley College – took part in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games opening ceremony which was held at the Hydro in Glasgow on the evening of Thursday 23 July.
The band who practice regularly at FVC Campuses and pipe in the top table each year at the College’s graduation ceremonies, were honoured to be asked to take part and really did themselves and the College proud at the historic national opening of the games.
Derek Grieve CBE, Chair of the Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band, said:
“The Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band were delighted to take part in the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games ceremony in Glasgow. We were part of a mass pipes and drums core playing at the opening scene with Sam Heughan (from Outlander) and Nessie and the atmosphere in the Hyrdo was electric. The event was broadcast across the globe and it was great to welcome the Commonwealth to Scotland and show the importance of the pipes and drums to the World.”
