Creators of a popular Forth Valley College evening course – Writing For Publication – are celebrating another prestigious publishing award win.
Julie Christie – who along with her brother Dr Tom Christie is a Director of Extremis Publishing – was recently named Publishing Businesswoman of the Year for Scotland, at the influential Businesswoman Awards 2025.
This was in recognition of helping to lead Extremis Publishing to deliver consistent excellence, innovation, and cultural impact in the non-fiction publishing landscape over a remarkable decade in business.
For the last three years Extremis have been presenting the ‘Writing or Publication’ lecture series at Forth Valley College - a popular course which has attracted attendees from right across the country.
Julie, said: "I was delighted and humbled to receive this award. I was brought up to believe in lifelong learning, regardless of age. No-one should be shackled by people’s expectations about what they can and should be doing in different ages and seasons within their life - you do you. There's nothing I value more than supporting authors on their literary adventures, and encouraging them in their writing pursuits."
This year the company is proudly celebrating its tenth anniversary - marking a decade of innovation, creativity, and dedication to quality publishing - with the launch of a new regular newsletter, ‘Extremis Etc.’.
Over the past ten years, the company has published a diverse catalogue of works that have resonated with readers across the UK and internationally. Extremis Publishing has received multiple accolades in recognition of its contribution to Scottish arts and literature.
The company was honoured with the Independent Publishing Company of the Year Award at the Scotland Prestige Awards 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24; Publisher of the Year at the Innovation and Excellence Awards 2024; and most recently Non-Fiction Book Publisher of the Year for Scotland at the Business Excellence Awards 2025 - a testament to its continued commitment to excellence and innovation in the independent publishing sector.
Dr Tom Christie, who recently celebrated writing his 21st book, attributes their success to a commitment to author care, editorial integrity, and a passion for celebrating the unique.
He said: "We started Extremis Publishing with a vision to offer something a little different - to give a platform to independent voices and unusual subjects. It's been a wonderful journey so far, and we're honoured by the stalwart support we've received from readers, authors, and booksellers over the years."
