Connected Competence testing from ECITB and Forth Valley College

Engineering technical tests from ECITB assess and validate the ability of individual employees or prospective recruits to perform the skill-based tasks that the industry needs. They help ensure the critical skills of engineering construction craftspeople and technicians match the demands of industry, both today and in the future.

Pipefitting

Pipe Fitting Technical Test

Launching March 2022

  • TPF05 - Hot work preparation of welded pipework - assemble and secure pipework for welding as per specification drawing using cutting, grinding and tack welding techniques – 4 Hours
  • TPF08 Fabricating and installing pipework supports - cold form and install pipework supports using bolting and clamping systems including bending techniques – 2 Hours
  • TPF10 Hydrostatic pressure testing of pipework systems - prepare and hydrostatically test pipework, and then drain the system – 2 Hours
  • TMJI10 Dismantle, assemble and hand torque flanged joints - dismantle, inspect flanges and report faults, prepare, assemble and secure a flanged pipework joint as per the specified drawing and within set tolerances – 2 Hours
  • TPF11 Interpret drawing information and assemble threaded pipework - interpret information from an isometric drawing and produce a full-scale wire representation. Produce, assemble and secure threaded pipework joints using screwed joints, flanges, and fittings from specifications – 2 Hours
  • Knowledge Test – 45Mins

Electrical Maintenance Technical Test

Coming soon - subject to approval

  • TEM03 - Testing Portable Equipment - safely and accurately inspect and test portable electrical equipment using appropriate tools, equipment and techniques – 2 Hours
  • TEM05 - Battery and UPS Systems - check the condition of battery cells, take voltage readings making comparison to the manufacturers recommendations and check the functionality of the battery-supported UPS equipment; prepare the equipment and reinstate after the work has been completed safely – 2 Hours
  • TEM06 - Inspect, Test and Maintain Industrial Switchgear Equipment - safely and competently inspect, test and maintain industrial circuit protective equipment using appropriate equipment, tools and techniques – 2 Hours
  • TEM10 - Hazardous area inspection of electrical equipment - safely carry out a visual, close and detailed inspection of electrical/instrumentation equipment in a defined hazardous area – 2 Hours
  • TEM14 - Periodic Inspection of a Three-phase System - carry out the periodic inspection and testing of three[1]phase plant and equipment in an industrial environment, including visual inspection of associated equipment – 2 Hours
  • Knowledge Test – 45Mins

Electrical Installation Technical Test

  • TIE04 - Install Electrical Distribution Final Systems - safely isolate a Three Phase Distribution Board, install single & three phase final circuits, and carry out suitable ‘Dead’ Tests using appropriate materials, equipment, tools and techniques – 2 Hours
  • TIE08 - Installing AC Electrical Motors - Install suitable cables, terminate and test a three-phase motor, using appropriate materials, equipment, tools and techniques – 2 Hours
  • TIE15 - Installing support systems - measure, cut, shape construct, and install a cable support system to specification. Construct and install a cable support consisting of tray and channel components to specification– 2 Hours
  • TIE16 - Installing cables in an Intrinsically Safe system - select, gland & terminate industrial type cable into an Intrinsically Safe installation, and safely follow the installation Loop drawing– 2 Hours
  • TIE17(Ex) - Install, Gland and Terminate Power Cables - Select, gland & terminate industrial type cables (E.g., Braid and SWA) to a suitable component (E.g., Junction Box) and associated cable tray in line with details on the appropriate specification– 2 Hours
  • Knowledge Test – 45Mins

Mechanical Maintenance Technical Test

  • TMF01 Precision measurement - Accurately measure a range of test components with micrometres, verniers and DTIs and record the results – 2 Hours
  • TMF07 Aligning, levelling and setting plant and equipment - Check and rectify the horizontal and vertical shaft alignment of rotating equipment – 2 Hours
  • TMM01 Maintaining hydraulic systems - Disassemble, clean, inspect and repair a hydraulic gear pump as per manufacturers specification – 2 Hours
  • TMM02 Maintaining pneumatic systems - Disassemble, clean, inspect and repair a double acting pneumatic cylinder as per manufacturers specification – 2 Hours
  • TMM05 Maintaining centrifugal pumps - Strip down, check dimensions, replace seals, and rebuild a centrifugal pump – 2 Hours
  • TMJI10 Dismantle, assemble and hand torque flanged joints - Dismantle, inspect flanges and report faults, prepare, assemble and secure a flanged pipework joint as per a specified drawing and within set tolerances – 2 Hours
  • Knowledge Test – 45Mins
