NQ Sport & Fitness

This course aims to provide a foundation in the practical and theoretical aspects of sport and fitness related studies and will equip the learner with the knowledge to make an informed decision on their future career path. Progression to further study would be on to a higher level sport or fitness related course.

  • Teamwork through Sport and Recreation Activities
  • Contemporary Fitness and Exercise Training Methods
  • Developing Leadership within Physical Activities
  • Human Anatomy, Physiology and Physical Activities
  • Nutrition, Health and Wellbeing.

  • Leisure attendant in local authority sports centres, or private fitness clubs/gyms
  • Active schools assistant
  • Sports coaching/development assistant

Successful completion of this course can lead to progression in the following courses:

  • NQ Pathway to Sports Coaching (SCQF Level 6)
  • NQ Pathway to Fitness, Health & Exercise (SCQF Level 6)

Mandatory:

  • Attendance at a group based course information and Q&A session.
  • Clear Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check required. Further information on the PVG Scheme will be issued to successful applicants prior to enrolment.
  • A strong interest in both Sport and Fitness related activites.

Plus one of the following:

  • Successful achievement of Three National 4 awards (or equivalent) including English and/or PE.

  • Successful completion of the SVQ Sport and Active Leisure - Level 1 course

  • Alternative Sports/Fitness related qualifications at the appropriate level may also be considered.
  • Applicants who do not meet these criteria, but have relevant paid workplace experience or alternative qualifications will be considered

Additional Requirements:

  • Students will be required to purchase relevant items of equipment and clothing at the commencement of the academic term.

• If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview. For January start courses interviews will be in Nov/Dec and interviews for August start courses will take place between February and May
• If your application is unsuccessful, you will be offered support in finding a suitable alternative course
• Applicants who provide a mobile phone number on their application form will be sent a text reminder prior to the day of interview
