NPA Exercise and Fitness Leadership (SCHOOLS)

The NPA in Exercise and Fitness Leadership provides a structured opportunity for you to experience a number of recognised ways of leading others in fitness activities. It will allow you to develop your personal leadership qualities and to also develop your knowledge and skills in Fitness & Exercise.

The National Progression Award (NPA) in Exercise and Fitness Leadership will provide a practically focussed approach to learning about contemporary methods of Fitness and Exercise training and how physical exercise impacts upon an individual’s physiology and anatomy.

The award is designed to articulate with current college Fitness, Health and Exercise provision and to support those who may wish to follow, in future, that particular employment pathway.

Attendance:

Falkirk Campus: Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from August until June for one year.

 

 

Being practically orientated, the course will contain the following (Higher) subjects:

  • Cardiovascular Training
  • Circuit Training
  • Exercise to Music
  • Fixed Weight Training
  • Free Weight Training
  • Human Physiology in the Development of Performance

The NPA in Exercise and Fitness Leadership is not designed to lead directly to employment but will underpin the knowledge and skills required by employers and are linked to the National Occupational Standards for this subject area.

It will provide progression opportunities for higher level study, which can lead to employment within the following areas:

  • Fitness Instructor
  • Personal Trainer
  • Gym Assistant
  • PE Teacher
  • Exercise referral officer
  • Wellness Coordinator
  • Health Trainer

Upon Sucessful completion of this course, pupils will be eligible to apply for the following courses:

  • HNC Fitness Health & Execise.
  • HNC Police Studies (Schools programme course).
  • HND Sports Coaching & Development.

Mandatory:

  • A strong interest in Fitness, Health & Exercise studies

Plus one of the following:

  • Three National 5 awards (or equivalent) preferably English, PE and a science subject at grade C or above
  • Other Fitness related qualifications at the appropriate level may also be considered.

Additional Requirements:

  • Students will be required to purchase relevant items of equipment and clothing
