Creative Writing: Going Deeper - Evening
Develop your writing practice. This course is primarily focused on giving and receiving feedback. It is for writers with a little more experience (including those who have attended “Writing for the Terrified”) who would now like to establish a regular writing practice with one project in particular, such as a novel, memoir, collection of short stories or poetry.
Content
Over the course of the term, you’ll benefit from:
- advice on how to overcome procrastination
- a wide variety of writing prompts to help you approach your project in different ways
- discussion on themes relevant to the group’s interests and needs
- the feedback on this course will be a little more detailed and rigorous than on “Writing for the Terrified” with constructive advice as well as encouragement from the group and your tutor.
- advice on submitting work to literary magazines and competitions
Your workshops will be facilitated by Stirling Makar, award-winning writer and writing mentor, Laura Fyfe. She has tutored creative writing courses for over twenty years, independently and in collaboration with groups and organisations across Scotland, including the Scottish Association of Writers and The University of Stirling. Laura has edited several anthologies and adjudicated a wide range of local and national writing competitions. Her poetry and short stories have been published in acclaimed literary magazines, she has published 3 poetry collections, two non-fiction books and has several novels in development. As a former Director of the Scottish Writers’ Centre and current co-chair of the Scottish Poetry Library, Laura has intimate knowledge and experience of the writing community and industry in Scotland. Her calm, warm approach ensures a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, suitable for even the most nervous of aspiring writers.
