Modern Apprenticeship - Engineering

A Modern Apprenticeship (MA) is a qualification candidates gain whilst in full-time employment.

It consists of a Scottish Vocational Qualification, (SVQ), Core skills (Communication, Numeracy, Problem Solving, Working with Others, ICT) and either an NC, HNC or HND or combination of these.

MAs are a combination of practical work based qualifications which are carried out in the workplace alongwith time spent in College in either a full-time, block or day release basis depending on the discipline chosen. Forth Valley College has excellent workshops and facilities including high specification laboratories, training rigs and state-of-the-art technology.

Applications for the MA in Engineering commencing August 2021 will close on Friday 26 February 2021.

Year 1
• Performing Engineering Operations (PEO2) Level 2 SVQ + NC at College

Year 2
• Level 3 VQ assessed in the workplace + HNC day release

Year 3
• Level 3 VQ assessed in the workplace + HNC day release

• Apprentices will also be certificated for all 5 core skills at intermediate 2
• Dependant on your company placement you will complete the PEO2 SVQ in either the workplace or at College workshops
• All Modern Apprentices are employed full-time from day one
• Funding for a Modern Apprenticeships may be funded or part funded through Skills Development Scotland

• Permanent Employment within the Engineering Industry
• HND Course
• University Degree Programme

  • Four National 5 awards in English, Maths, Physics or Chemistry plus a craft or technical subject

Additional Requirements:

  • All successful applicants will sit four aptitude tests, and have completed mandatory interview techniques
  • All companies involved will then interview applicants of their choosing
  • Applicants may have to go through a medical prior to employment

• Before starting the application process, please ensure you already hold or are working towards the relevant entry qualifications required for the course you are applying for

• If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview. For January start courses interviews will be in Nov/Dec and interviews for August start courses will take place between February and May
• If your application is unsuccessful, you will be offered support in finding a suitable alternative course
