BA Art & Design - Year 1

Unique to Forth Valley College, this new general first year degree programme is ideal for those who would like to try a range of art and design activities before defining their specialism.

The vast majority of degree programmes now require you to study either Art or Design, there are no such barriers within this interdisciplinary programme. In year 1 you will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of specialisms. You will carry out a variety of art and design based projects, deciding on a specialism by Easter, supported by feedback and advice from staff. Your practical project work will support a growing critical and contextual understanding of art and design theory.

The programme is ideal for both school leavers, progression from Portfolio Courses and adult returners.

This degree is validated by the University of Stirling.

In year 1 you will do the following:

  • BA Drawing and Painting project (including Life drawing)
  • BA Theory & Context project
  • BA Digital project
  • BA Creative Arts project (2D & 3D)
  • BA Printmaking project
  • BA Specialist project

*Please note that year 2 of the programme will be made up of year 2 content from one of our HNDs, either Art and Design or Contemporary Art Practice, depending on your specialism. This specialism will then be carried into year 3 where you will work alongside students from a variety of different specialisms.
