HND Photography

This programme will enable students to learn and practice all of the skills needed to kick-start a career in photography. Learning from knowledgeable, experienced and award-winning staff, candidates will learn all of the practical and theoretical skills needed to begin working towards a successful career in photography, with a particular focus on digital skills.

Based at Forth Valley College's Stirling Campus, in a stunning riverside setting, students will have all of the guidance and inspiration they will need to learn photography and image manipulation techniques for the digital age. Students will be expected to enhance their theoretical and contextual understanding of photography and presentation skills.

Participants will create a portfolio of their work across social, corporate, documentary photography and photo-journalism and will gain skills working with photographic studio flash equipment.

On successful completion of this course students may progress onto a related degree programme. Forth Valley College has formal articulation links in place for entry into year 3 of the following degree programmes:

  • BA Art and Design (year 3) at Forth Valley College (validated by the University of Stirling)
  • BA (Hons) Art and Design
  • BA (Hons) Photography
  • BA (Hons) Creative Enterprise – Fife College, Glenrothes campus (validated by Queen Margaret University)

  • All applicants are required to submit a digital portfolio prior to interview

Plus one of the following:

  • Foundation Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media and Higher Art at grade C or above
  • Two Highers at grade C or above to include Photography or Art and Design and, preferably, English. If applicants do not hold Higher English they must possess National 5 English.
  • National Certificate in a related discipline e.g. Photography, Art and Design or Media
  • Alternative qualifications and/or relevant experience will also be considered on an individual basis
