NQ Carpentry & Joinery (Pre-Apprenticeship)

This course helps students develop the hand skills and knowledge required for progressing to formal craft training in carpentry and joinery and other technical occupations. It combines practical training, job knowledge and associated studies.

This course requires a positive attitude and develops valuable workplace skills. To achieve this, students will learn about the skills and attitudes that employers are looking for, how to work effectively with others and what to expect - in relation to health and safety - in the construction workplace. There is a strong emphasis on hand skills within the suite of units offered, with an integrated theory aspect embedded into the course.

All students will be required to use the College's virtual learning environment (Moodle) to complete course work, personal learning plans and work diary. The course timetable will be made up of practical workshops, classroom-based learning sessions and directed study using ICT for learning.
