Basic Plumbing for Beginners - Evening
Our Basic Plumbing evening course provides a practical introduction to the essential skills used in domestic plumbing. Designed for complete beginners, this hands-on 6-week course combines clear demonstrations with guided practice, helping you build confidence while learning how to approach common tasks safely and correctly.
Whether you are a homeowner keen to undertake basic DIY repairs, someone exploring a possible career in the plumbing or wider construction industry, or simply interested in gaining useful practical skills, this course is an ideal starting point. In a friendly and supportive environment, you will learn how to identify and use common tools and fittings, understand basic water systems, make simple pipe connections, maintain taps and traps, recognise common faults, and know when a job should be referred to a qualified professional. By the end of the course, you will have gained practical experience and greater confidence in completing straightforward plumbing tasks.
Content
- Understand essential health and safety practices for basic plumbing work
- Identify and use common plumbing tools, materials and fittings correctly
- Develop a basic understanding of domestic hot- and cold-water systems Measure, cut and prepare pipework for simple connections
- Practise basic joints and connections using commonly used fittings
- Remove, inspect and refit simple taps, wastes and traps
- Recognise common household plumbing problems and basic maintenance needs

Student Paying Fees
Fees of less than £150 must be paid in full. Payment by instalment is available, provided the course fee is £150 or greater. You can access a direct debit form here.
Instalments must be paid via direct debit over a 4-month period and an initial 30% deposit is required in order to secure your place. You will not be able to apply online if paying by direct debit please contact Evening Admissions - eveninginfo@forthvalley.ac.uk
Employer Paying Fees
If your employer is paying for your tuition fees, an Employers Agreement Form or letter from your employer must be submitted prior to or on enrolment. You can access the Employer Agreement Form here. We ask that you complete the Employer Agreement Form here and return via email to - eveninginfo@forthvalley.ac.uk
Please also be aware that if you do not meet the residency requirements to be assessed as a home fee student, you may be required to pay a higher fee rate. For evening courses, this rate is double the home fee advertised.
