- Working with Young People Placement Information: Central to the course is a mandatory work placement.
- Students will be in the College for two days a week and undertake the placement during the remainder of the week. Learners can use existing paid or voluntary work for their placement or may be supported to find a placement.
HNC Working with Communities
This course is aimed at people who wish to pursue a career working within a community-based setting and who are already, or would like to become involved in community-based development work.
The course provides a nationally recognised qualification and recognises the skills, qualities and knowledge developed through experience of working within the community.
Students will undertake a placement in the statutory or the voluntary sector doing community work, youth work or adult education to give them valuable practical experience.

On successful completion of this course students may progress onto a related degree programme, for example entry into Year two of the following degree programme:
- BA (Hons) Community Education – University of the West of Scotland
Please note progression routes are subject to change and do not guarantee a place on any university course. Students should check with individual universities for more information, each institution will have specific entry requirements.
Mandatory:
- Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check required due to the work placement element of the programme. Further information on the PVG Scheme will be issued to successful applicants prior to enrolment.
- Ideally entrants will have Two Highers at grade C or above or an appropriate grouping of SQA units. Applicants who do not meet these criteria but have substantial experience of working in the community or alternative qualifications will be considered.
- Final selection subject to application screening and an interview by a member of the teaching team. This can sometimes involve applicants completing a short-written task as part of the screening process.

• If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview. For January start courses interviews will be in Nov/Dec and interviews for August start courses will take place between February and May
• If your application is unsuccessful, you will be offered support in finding a suitable alternative course
