The Canine Classroom: A Journey into Animal Behaviour - Evening
Discover the world of animal behaviour with a special focus on our canine companions. This engaging evening course offers an accessible introduction to the science of how dogs think, communicate and interact with humans, other dogs, and the world around them. Whether you're a dog owner, animal lover or simply curious about their behaviour, this course is designed to be inclusive, engaging and above all, fun!
This course is open to those aged 14+
No prior knowledge is required, and there are no exams or assessments.
Please note: Two dogs belonging to the course tutor will be present during classes.

Content
- Evolution of dogs from wolves and how domestication has influenced their behaviour
- Early socialisation and its impact on behavioural development
- Understanding the unique human-dog bond
- How dogs communicate using body language, vocalisations and scent
- Interactions between dogs and between humans and dogs
- Recognising stress signals, play behaviour and aggression
- How dogs learn (classical and operant conditioning)
- Common behavioural issues such as barking, chewing and separation anxiety
- Training techniques based on positive reinforcement
- The role of dogs in society (including therapy and working dogs)

Student Paying Fees
Fees of less than £150 must be paid in full. Payment by instalment is available, provided the course fee is £150 or greater. You can access a direct debit form here.
Instalments must be paid via direct debit over a 4-month period and an initial 30% deposit is required in order to secure your place. You will not be able to apply online if paying by direct debit please contact Evening Admissions - eveninginfo@forthvalley.ac.uk.
Employer Paying Fees
If your employer is paying for your tuition fees, an Employers Agreement Form or letter from your employer must be submitted prior to or on enrolment. You can access the Employer Agreement Form here.
