Introduction to Art & Design - Online
This online course is the equivalent of SCQF Level 5 and introduces the foundations of art and design, helping you build confidence in your creative knowledge and visual language.
This is a theory-based course with no practical projects. It is ideal as a stand-alone introduction to art and design, or as a supplement to practical creative study.
The course is approximately 15 hours of learning. Each session will take around 30-45 minutes to complete.
Applicants for this course must reside in Scotland.
Content
You will explore:
- The formal elements of art and design (line, shape, tone, colour, texture, pattern and composition)
- The principles of design, such as balance, unity, proportion and rhythm
- Key art movements and periods, including postmodernism
- How to analyse and record artwork, using journals, research and evaluation
- Core creative skills such as analytical drawing, experimentation, and sampling
- Pathways into visual arts and textiles as part of the wider art and design field
- How to work with briefs and stimuli, developing ideas to meet client or project needs
Progression
- Successful completion of this course can support progression to further study in art and design at Forth Valley College
