Hi, my name is Katie Johnstone and I am the Active Travel Coordinator at Forth Valley College.
I’ve been in post for around three months now and I’m really enjoying settling into the role. My role is all about making it easier and more appealing for staff and students to walk, wheel and cycle as part of everyday life at the College.
Day to day, I’m involved in everything from organising our regular walks and cycles, to creating personal travel plans, running events alongside our Walking & Cycling Officer, Larissa Purves, and developing internal campaigns that highlight the benefits of building more activity into everyday College life for staff and students.
I also support bigger-picture work across the College, including reporting on our strategic travel KPIs and helping drive forward actions in the College’s Strategic Travel Plan, so there’s a nice mix of hands-on activity and wider planning.
Some of the fun things I’m working on just now include the Step Count Challenge, which is going brilliantly with six teams already clocking up more than 4,958,163 steps at the halfway point! Keep an eye out for other opportunities to get involved, try something new, boost your wellbeing and maybe even discover a different way of getting to and around campus.
If you want to know more about active travel, want to get involved in activities or have ideas or suggestions, please just give me a shout or email activetravel@forthvalley.ac.uk!
