International student Joy Amefule (32) recently completed a National Certificate (NC) Childhood Practice Level 6.
Currently living in Cumbernauld Joy, who is from Nigeria, said: “As an international student I chose to study at Forth Valley College because of its strong focus on practical and high quality early years education. Their courses are well structured and designed to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to work effectively with children and young children in a variety of settings.
“What really appealed to me was the College’s hands on approach to learning, with opportunities for real workplace experience and placements that prepare students for careers in childcare and education. Also, I wanted to learn within a system that values inclusion, child development, a supportive environment, and holistic learning.
“The College has excellent facilities believe me, and experienced lecturers, who will help you all the way from the start to the end of your course and they bring real world expertise into the classroom.
“Studying at FVC has been a truly rewarding experience that has benefited me both personally and professionally. The course has deepened my understanding of child development, play based learning and inclusion education. I have gained practical skills that I can confidently apply in real early years settings here in Scotland and the UK as a whole, thanks to the College’s strong focus on hands on learning and work placement experience. Also, it has helped me adapt to a new culture and educational system. Overall, the experience has prepared me well for a meaningful career in early years’ education.”
Joy who now hopes to possibly progress to pursue further qualifications or move directly into the workforce, added: “I would recommend the College to other students, especially international students like me, because of the supportive, inclusive, and career focused learning environment it offers. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and supported not just academically, but also personally as I adjusted to a new culture and country.
“The best bit for me has been the practical placement experience. Being able to work directly with children in a real early years setting. Another highlight for me was the supportive learning environment, the lecturers were always approachable and willing to help, and I felt like they genuinely cared about my progress.
“Also, meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures has been really enriching. Overall, the combination of hands on learning, personal growth and welcoming community has made my time at Forth Valley College truly memorable.”
