Daniel Drysdale

Daniel Drysdale (19) from Inverkeithing is a Fabrication and Welding Modern Apprentice who works for Babcock in Rosyth.

I work and my fellow Babcock apprentices are learning from the Forth Valley College lecturer to improve our welding skills. I looking forward to taking in as much information as possible, passing the exams, and to improve in fabrication and welding.

Babcock based at Rosyth on the Firth of Forth constructs ships for the royal navy and for navies around the world. My role in this is to join them at the Rosyth dockyards once my time at college is complete and aid in the construction of navy ships

The facilities at the Falkirk Campus like the gym, library, workshop, and the technology in the classrooms are all of a high quality and are massively helping in my learning during the welding course.

The technology at the College such as the Augmented Reality welding machines have helped to grow my knowledge in the welding course, without needing to step foot into the workshop, which helps a lot.

Both the facilities and the lectures provide a lot of aid in my learning through the computers in the library, or how the lecturers upload the powerpoints to my Teams page for additional revision.

“I would recommend FVC as its facilities are miles ahead of the schools and colleges in my area, as well as the fact that this college offers every course under the sun, there is something for every type of person.

I would say that as good as the college is, the people you work with really makes the experience, and I've been quite lucky to be paired with a class who are both funny and focused when the time needs it.

“The advice I would give to a new Modern Apprentice would be to arrive 30 minutes early, so you can ask lecturers questions before tasks, grab breakfast, or just relax before a long day ahead.”
