What is a Modern Apprenticeship?
A Modern Apprenticeship (MA) is a qualification gained whilst in full-time employment earning a wage. Most of the learning will take place in the workplace, so applicants can look forward to lots of hands-on practical training while still attending college on a part-time basis.
For the most part the MA will be based in their employer’s place of work and attend the College on day release to learn in excellent training facilities and workshops with well-equipped teaching rooms, high specification laboratories, simulated plants and all the latest technology.
Apply directly for Engineering or Life Science MAs with us, and for all other MAs, see the information below on how best to start your MA journey at Forth Valley College.
Three Steps to become a Modern Apprentice
Step 1 - Choose an Industry. The apprentice should choose an industry that aligns with their interests and career ambitions.
Step 2 - Identify an Employer. Find an employer who will employ you & support your apprenticeship.
Step 3 - Register Interest. The employer should contact Forth Valley College in order to arrange an Apprenticeship Officer to manage their apprenticeship.
Modern Apprenticeship Frameworks
he specific framework of a modern apprentice's training and qualifications is determined by the industry they are working in.
Frameworks are used to assess apprenticeships - they define the competence level and timescales that the apprenticeship must be delivered within. They are developed by relevant industry bodies and approved by the Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Group (MAG).
“I would recommend an MA as they allow you to get a recognised qualification & vital experience in your selected sector which will help progress in your career. The best advice I can give anyone is apply as it is a great way to earn as you learn."
