Once this has been completed, please provide this evidence to your company so that a Risk Assessment can be carried out to cover your competency and meet their legal obligations for utilising candidates working in hazardous areas beyond their Core Competency Certification expiry date until a new certificate is obtained.

The Certification Body considers that mitigation in this respect can be achieved by ensuring that a Refresher Course has been formally booked with a centre.

If it is not possible to attend a course before the expiry of a candidate's certification, the employer or candidate should apply for an extension via email at business.development@forthvalley.ac.uk.  Any request for extension should include the candidate(s) full name, contact details, CompEx number, reason for the extension and evidence of a course booking. The CompEx Centre will forward these requests to the Certification Body. Requests for extension shall be reviewed on a case by case basis, and each request will be formally acknowledged to each candidate by the centre.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is aware that those holding First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work certificates nearing expiry date may not get access to a Refresher course during the Coronavirus pandemic.

If re-qualification training is prevented for reasons associated directly with Coronavirus or by complying with related government advice, it is reasonable and practical to extend the validity of current certificates by up to 3 months.

Anyone taking advantage of this extension should be able to describe clearly their reasons for delaying re-qualification training. We would strongly recommend that you book onto a Refresher course so you can demonstrate steps you have taken to undertake the required training.

Candidates with certificates due to expire should contact the College via e-mail at business.development@forthvalley.ac.uk and book onto our current waiting list.
