Wood Plc – an employer partner of Forth Valley College - have been shortlisted as finalists in the Skills Development Scotland (SDS) Scottish Apprenticeship Awards.
The Aberdeen based multi-national company has, for more than 160 years, partnered with clients to deliver engineering, advisory and operational solutions to some of the world’s most complex and critical challenges in energy and materials, but it is its partnership with FVC that has helped it become a finalist in the Large Employer of the Year Category of the annual event.
Winners will be revealed at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards, which will take place on Thursday 27 February, as the launch event for Scottish Apprenticeship Week from 3-7 March.
Forth Valley College’s Head of Apprenticeships Caroline Hogg entered the submission on behalf of the Wood Plc covering their whole training programme, but particularly since the company became an apprentice employer a decade ago.
Wood Plc currently have 33 Modern Apprentices training with FVC, including 17 apprentices through the APTUS (a rebranding of the OGTAP – Oil and Gas Technical Apprenticeship Programme - meaning to adapt, to adjust and to be prepared) scheme, focusing on developing talent for the energy sector. These apprentices are gaining industry-standard training and qualifications with the support of the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) and Forth Valley College, ensuring they receive the best possible start to their careers.
In addition to apprentices, Wood Plc welcomed 88 graduates and eight trainees in 2023-24 across all business units, further demonstrating their dedication to early career development.
Back in November 2024 Wood Plc picked up the Large Employer of the Year Award at the 12th Annual ECI Training and Development Awards.
FVC Principal and Chief Executive, Kenny MacInnes, said: “Congratulations to Wood Plc for being shortlisted as Finalists in the SDS Scottish Apprenticeship Awards for 2025 in the Large Employer of the Year category. Well done to everyone involved in the nomination process. These awards showcase examples of best practise across the Scottish skills and industry sector and for one of our partner employers to once again to be in contention for a top award, is great recognition of the work we all do.”
