The University of Aberdeen has signed an articulation agreement with Forth Valley College that paves the way for HNC and HND engineering students to gain a degree.
The agreement was signed last week along with a Memorandum of Understanding that will see the institutions work together in areas of mutual interest, including an intention to work together on international engineering related programmes for Low Income Countries (LIC) in Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.
It comes as part of the University’s efforts to act on the recommendations of the Commission on Widening Access to provide more entry routes for college students who wish to continue their studies at university.
The agreement was signed by University Principal, Professor Sir Ian Diamond, and Forth Valley College Principal Dr Ken Thomson on Friday, September 1st.
Welcoming the agreement, Sir Ian said:
“The University has made great advances in the number of routes we offer to college students who wish to study to degree level, and the School of Engineering is leading the way in this effort.
“This partnership with Forth Valley College recognises the similarities between both institutions, particularly in terms of our links to the oil and gas industry, and that is why the first articulation routes we have offered are in engineering subjects.
“The agreement provides a clear pathway for college students who wish to transition to our renowned engineering programmes, and we look forward to working closely with our new partners to explore more areas of collaboration in future.”
Forth Valley College Principal, Dr Ken Thomson, said:
“It is a privilege to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with such a prestigious university and we are excited at the prospect of working together over the coming months and years.
“We have shared expertise in science and engineering and our students and staff are definitely going to benefit from working closely with Aberdeen University over the coming years.”
