Two new partnership degree courses will provide strong foundations for student career prospects while also strengthening the relationship built between Forth Valley College and Heriot-Watt University in recent years.
Courses available include the new BEng/MEng Civil Engineering/Structural Engineering course, where students spend one year completing a HNC at FVC, before completing either three more years for a Bachelor’s degree or four more for a Master’s Degree at Heriot-Watt University’s Riccarton campus on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
The course is designed for those seeking a career/or progressing their careers in civil engineering design, management and maintenance of infrastructure elements such as construction of buildings, bridges, roads, railway, water and sewerage systems.
Additionally, the new BSc (Hons) Applied Biological Sciences degree offers interdisciplinary training in contemporary biological sciences, including animal and plant biology and biotechnology. There is also a strong focus on the cellular and molecular aspects of biological science and the development of practical skills.
Students will spend two years completing a HND at FVC, and then go on to complete two more years at the university. It will particularly appeal to those with a desire to pursue a career in the bioscience industries, within healthcare and biotechnology.
Both courses allow students the option of progressing to complete a Masters.
Kenny MacInnes, Principal of Forth Valley College, said: “We are delighted to further strengthen our links with Heriot-Watt University by offering these two new partnership degree courses.
“Civil engineering and applied biological sciences are both very diverse subjects and offer huge job opportunities in a variety of engineering and science sectors, and we are delighted to be working closely with Heriot-Watt to run these exciting new courses.
“They will be delivered at our Falkirk Campus and will provide students with a sound understanding of their subject matter and offer students with excellent learning and support, before they move on to university.”
FVC and Heriot Watt also offer partnership degree courses in:
- MEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering
- MEng (Hons) Electrical Engineering
- MEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering
