Two Kickstart Scheme trainees have landed full-time temporary roles with Forth Valley College after impressing on their placements.

The College initially secured the services of eight young work placements through the new UK Government wide £2 billion Kickstart Scheme, to create hundreds of thousands of high quality six-month job placements for young people, and was launched in the summer of 2020 as part of the Plan for Jobs.

Now Sarah Lightbody (23) from Cumbernauld and Chloe Miller from (22) from Bonnybridge – who initially started as Administration Assistants in the Commercial & Training Delivery section, have kickstarted their full-time careers by their appointments in both the Department of Student Records and Commercial & Training Delivery.

Sarah, said: “I really enjoyed my time working on the Kickstart Scheme. It allowed me to get used to the different systems that the College uses, as I like to learn as much as I can about what I am doing on a day-to-day basis. The best bit for me on the Kickstart Scheme at FVC was that I always felt like I was doing something productive with my time. I would definitely recommend the College as a good place to work and would also recommend the Kickstart programme as well.

“I am delighted to have secured a full-time post in Student Records for at least six months and hope it could lead to something more permanent in the future.”

Lisa Hachemi, Contracts Officer in FVC’s Commercial & Training Delivery Department, where Sarah and Chloe have been working, said: “I am extremely proud of both Sarah and Chloe for securing their temporary positions within FVC.  Since joining my team, they have worked extremely hard and have become valued members of the team.  At the start of their Kickstart placement I told them that they had to grasp every opportunity given to them and that’s just what they have done.  On behalf of FVC I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication in their six month placement and I look forward to seeing them progress with their career.”
