The new groups of GE Vernova Modern Apprentices took the first steps on their Forth Valley College journey recently.
Eight Mechanical MAs, who will attend College full-time during their first year, nine Winders MAs who will go directly to site and commence SVQ L3 qualification while working, and three Mechanical Apprentices (Prior Scholars) who will also go directly to site to start SVQ L3 qualification, all attended an induction day at the Falkirk Campus on Thursday 15 August.
Ian Campbell, Resource Operations Director Europe at GE Vernova - Gas Power One Field Services, said: “One Field Services (FieldCore) is proud to enter a second year of collaboration with Forth Valley College, after our first year training nine new apprentices. They have now moved into their second year and are already assigned to field training at our customer power plants in Europe.
“With this success, and our desire to grow a young and vibrant field team for the future, we have taken on an additional eight mechanical apprentices who will spend the next year at Forth Valley College, under the Modern Apprenticeship Programme.
“We have also taken on three second year apprentices who will go directly to the field and continue their education in collaboration with the College.
“As part of our growth strategy, we have also hired nine ‘Winders’ who come into our business as second year apprentices. They will start their training in the field as Generator Winders, working on large scale generator re-wind projects, again these apprentices will continue their apprentice certification in collaboration with Forth Valley College.
“It was a pleasure to welcome our new team members to the business on their first day at work at the College, and I appreciate the help from the GE Vernova team and FVC team, who worked to make their first day a success. We all look forward to seeing their growth over the coming year.”
Lorna Allison, FVC Apprenticeship Officer, said: “After a very successful year last year establishing a partnership with GE Vernova for Mechanical Modern Apprentices, who have all progressed to site this year, it is fantastic to be welcoming another three cohorts this year. This will be the first time we have worked with GE Vernova to deliver this award using the brand new Electrical Award pathway.
“I was delighted to be involved in welcoming them to College and meeting everyone from GE Vernova, who will be supporting them all going forward. I am sure Heather Malcolm my fellow College Apprenticeship Officer, will enjoy working with everyone and seeing them all progress.”
