Sweet smell of success for Bake Off Students
Winners April Watson and Angie Campbell with their Gold Certificates

An end of term ‘Bake Off’ competition served up a tasty display of kitchen skills from student cooks recently at Forth Valley College’s Stirling Campus.

The event took place on the afternoon of Monday 5 June and expert judges had a very hard job deciding on the winning teams.

However, after much deliberation and a good few mouthfuls of all the baking on display, the Gold winners were announced as Angie Campbell and April Watson from the NC Bakery course based at the Falkirk Campus. Two sets of Silver winners were announced Luis Robertson and Alex Thomson from the NC Bakery based in Stirling and Jahcari Greenwood and Isaiah John Macatangay also from the NC Bakery Falkirk course.

One of the judges Csaba Hegedus from Mhor Bread in Callander, offered the students who took part a period of work experience in the popular bakery. This became part of their prizes, which also included a patisserie book - the book they would have had to buy for the HNC Professional Cooker: Patisserie course – and a FVC goodie bag.

Karyn King, FVC’s Operations Manager in Hospitality, said: “We are delighted to have hosted our very first Forth Valley Bake Off competition for our NC Bakery students. The standard was very high and all the students put a lot of extra time and effort into preparing for this. It was also fantastic to have an independent judge from Mhor Bread attend the event. We look forward to doing this competition every year!”
