Four Sound Production students from Forth Valley College helped raise money for charity last weekend (Saturday 13 February), by volunteering their skills at a David Bowie tribute night.
More than 200 people packed into the Victoria Halls in Dunblane as several local bands performed all the late music icon’s greatest hits and second year HND students Kirsty Findlay, Jamie Flynn, Jack Pacitti and Evan Lake took care of mixing the front of house and monitor sound for the bands and controlled the stage lighting and projections.
Cancer Research and Maggies Centre (specifically towards a Maggies Stirling Centre) were the worthy causes to benefit from more than £700 that was raised on the night. Andy Greig from Scot Audio who organised the event, was really impressed with the standards of the students who helped out.
Bands involved on the night included: Riverman Collective, Iain MacLeod, MoyendaLite , Brina, TorqueWrencH, The Adverse Effect, Life in Colour, Under Your Hat, Jean Genies and the Sourmash Blues Band
FVC Creative Industries Curriculum Manager Colin McGeoch, said:
“The event was busy, it was a really good night and the students did an amazing job. Andy from Scot Audio was really impressed with how our students performed.
“Everyone – including the bands and the interval DJ - supplied services for free, and the four students who volunteered to take part formed the main core of the technical team. They had to adapt really quickly as set up time was limited and there was a large amount of audio/visual equipment to get ready and test prior to the event.
“Andy has already asked for the students’ contact details so he can offer them paid freelance work as and when opportunities arise, which is fantastic news.”
Andy Greig, Managing Director at Scot Audio, said:
“The team worked really well together and managed to work the sound/lighting with next to no tuition. This left me free to run the night, so a massive thanks to them all – they made my life much easier and they all did a great job. I hope Colin puts their grades up a notch because they deserve it!”
