STEM workshop gives probationary teachers a buzz
Probationer event at Alloa

Forth Valley College’s Alloa Campus hosted workshop for probationer teachers recently to gain an understanding of STEM lessons.

The session - held in the Tower Suite on Wednesday 12 February – invited 20 new teachers to explore on and offline Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) challenges and develop an understanding of FVC’s Engineering and Science Department’s ‘The Famous Four Save the Planet’ (P5-P7) and ‘STEM Pick N Mix’ (nursery-P7) initiatives.

The event was match funded by SP Energy Networks, Education Scotland and DYW Forth Valley and allowed those attending to try out some of the featured STEM activities and experiments and explore brand new ‘Famous Four’ adventure all about Green Energy and Sustainability.

Fiona Jackson, Curriculum Manager in FVC’s Department of Engineering and Science, said: “The event went really well, with everyone participating in the hands on workshop.  One of the probationers said they thought the event was 'brilliant' and told us they thought this is what teaching was going to be like!”

“We have already had an inquiry about a follow up event from a Principal Teacher, who also commented on the buzz in the room, so we have been delighted at the feedback.”
