Chancellor's Fellow and Senior Research Fellow at Edinburgh University – Dr Ian Overton – visited Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus recently to give a talk on ‘Network Science in Biology and Medicine’.
Dr Overton - who is also a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Young Academy of Scotland – leads a group who try to understand why cancer cells spread around the body and why some patients respond well to treatment and others do not. His group's work ultimately aims to develop diagnostic tools necessary for personalized medicine and provide direction in the search for more effective treatments.
He spoke to more than 40 enthusiastic FVC science students in the Main Hall on Tuesday 25 October, who were all inspired by the presentation.
Dr Overton, said: “I enjoyed visiting Forth Valley College and was impressed with the level of interest shown by the students.”
Fiona Jackson a Curriculum Manager in FVC’s Applied Science, Maths and Mechanical Engineering Department, said: “It was an honour to have Dr Overton come along and speak with our students who will no doubt benefit enormously from what he had to say. We can’t thank him enough.”
