A total of 15 Forth Valley College students and staff are in the frame for claiming a Recyke-a-bike and accessories, after voucher draws were made at the Stirling and Alloa Campuses recently.

Previous Active Travel Officer for the College Ciara Newell, who was involved in the Smarter Choices, Smarter Places project, managed to secure a grant for FVC to purchase 30 bikes and accessories, and give away vouchers to the tune of £110.

On Wednesday 25 November a raffle was held and 90 tickets were bought – with the proceeds going to the Bikes for Good charity in Glasgow - and eight winners were identified in Stirling and seven in Alloa. A draw has yet to be organised for the Falkirk Campus. The lucky winners can now exchange their voucher for a bike, helmet and lock from the Recyke-a-bike store in Stirling.

Student voucher winner Gerry Godley, said: “Wow, this means that I can ditch the car some days to get in to college.”

Lecturer Neil Mcleod, who also won the voucher, said: “We were planning on getting my son a new bike for Christmas, so this couldn’t have happened at a better time.”

Another winner David Crossley an Additional Support Worker at the College, said: “Thanks so much for the fantastic news. I never win anything, so feel excited about winning this bike.”

FVC’s new Active Travel Officer Karolina Drabinska, said: “There are now 15 lucky people who will hopefully be cycling soon. Vouchers expire at the end of March, but the winners will need to get in touch with the shop to book an appointment to claim their bike and equipment. I will email all the winners and the shop with the details so they can go and choose their bike.

“We hope this will provide these individuals with the opportunity to start their cycling experience with no issues. We are hoping more students and staff will choose cycling as their travel choice and we would like to promote cycling across all three campuses. We still need to do a bike raffle in Falkirk, but due to current circumstances we don’t have a date of this event.”
