A Foundation Apprentice (FA) from Forth Valley College has been praised as a finalist for a national award.

Rebecca Townsend (17) from Linlithgow – who completed her FA in Health and Social Care while still at Bo’ness Academy - reached the final three in the Foundation Apprenticeship of the Year category of Skills Development Scotland’s 2017 Scottish Apprenticeship Awards.

The ceremony and dinner took place on Thursday 16 November 2017 at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow and Rebecca was accompanied by FVC’s Department of Care, Health and Sport lecturer Robin Young and Curriculum Manager Nicola McArthur. She is pictured here with fellow finalist Lee Clark and Nora Senior who is Chair of the new Strategic Board for Enterprise and Skills.

Nicola McArthur, Curriculum Manager in the Department of Care, Health and Sport, said: “Rebecca has worked so hard over the two years on her Health and Social Care Foundation Apprenticeship and deserves to be recognised with this commendation at a national level. We are extremely proud of Rebecca and are sure she will inspire more senior school pupils to think about the FAs and how valuable they can be to their future academic and professional careers.

“Rebecca is now studying nursing at Glasgow Caledonian University and believes the Foundation Apprenticeship gave her the skills and knowledge for this next step.”
