A fundraising North Coast 500 cycle ride is the latest exciting challenge for Stirling Fixit Team member Raymond Evenden.
Raymond takes on the picturesque Scottish road route on Friday 22 June to raise money for Calum’s Cabin a respite care facility for terminally ill children on the Isle of Bute and hopes to complete his cycle by Sunday 24 June.
Raymond said: “I am really looking forward to it. I am expecting it to hurt like hell, but we have been training for ages in preparation and it will be good to get on with it.”
It’s been a busy few months for active Raymond who is a member of the Grangemouth Triathlon Club. In April he attended an event in Oban where he spent some time cycling with record-breaking long-distance British cyclist, adventurer, broadcaster, documentary maker and author Mark Beaumont – who offered him some valuable tips and advice.
Raymond also took part in the Barcelona Iron Man competition in May and completed a 1.2mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and a half marathon in around six hours.
He added: “That’s the first time I have ever completed these distances in an event and – even though it was boiling in the heat during the run – I enjoyed it. Perhaps the tips and advice I got from Mark Beaumont helped me through it. He was so approachable and it was really great to meet him.”
