Customer Service course could help secure employment

Young job hunters who sign up for a new Preparation for Employment: Customer Service course at Forth Valley College, could use it to help them secure one of the million vacancies currently on offer in the UK right now.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that job vacancies have hit a record high as the economic recovery continues, putting anyone completing the course – which starts in October – in the driving seat to land full-time employment.

FVC’s range of Reset Courses – which include Skills Boost and Fast Track HNCs –  are offered as part of the exciting new East Central Scotland Colleges Collaboration are another exciting option for those looking to improve their CV and prepare for the work of work.

The Skills Boost courses include: Health Care Practice, Hospitality Refresh, Cyber Awareness, Media and Communications (Communications, Content Creation and Media Literacy) and Preparation for Employment.

The full-time Customer Service Industry specific course will last for 14 weeks and is made up of a combination of learning at Forth Valley College and placement opportunities with local employers ranging from hospitality, clerical, retail and charity organisations.

Other areas covered in the course include: Customer service and communication skills; Commercial awareness; Working under pressure; Working in a busy team; Time management; Initiative; Use of IT; Health & Safety and Responsibility; Cultural awareness; Numeracy; Develop your physically fitness; and Having knowledge of placement.

Charlene Bissett, FVC Workplace Coordinator, said: “The customer service courses are great to introduce students to a real working environment whilst developing their employability skills and confidence in the workplace. The course has provided the foundations to many students progressing into employment or further study.

"The only requirements are that applicants must have officially left school and be over the age of 16. There is no upper age limit to applying. Students must be committed to ensuring a good attendance, adopt a positive attitude, willingness to learn and a genuine interest in training.”

The course will also attract a full-time bursary including travel, for those that are eligible.
