A delegation of officials from Education Scotland visited Forth Valley College Falkirk Campus between 8-10 February – and have already delivered positive feedback.
The visit was part of the ongoing engagement with Education Scotland and involved a number of discussion groups with students, lecturers, support staff, the Student Association and a number of managers across both Curriculum and Corporate services areas.
The meetings took place over Tuesday and Wednesday with the feedback to senior managers on Thursday. All Staff and students involved in the process were invited to a number of meetings that focussed on Curriculum, Learning, Teaching and Assessment, Services to Support Learners, Learner Engagement, Learner Progress and Outcomes, and Evaluation Approaches.
Helen Young, FVC’s Head of Learning and Quality, said: “A massive ‘thank you’ goes to staff and students for their support and contributions to the Education Scotland Progress Visit this week. We received verbal feedback yesterday afternoon and Education Scotland have reported back that we have made ‘Satisfactory Progress’ over the last two years - with the only measurable options being Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory - so this is really good. There were some areas of improvement to be made, but all in all a very strong and positive picture, with many strengths being identified.”
Rob McDermott, FVC Quality Manager, added: “Education Scotland noted that as a College we responded quickly and effectively to our new situation, with most students completing qualifications, and relatively low numbers of deferred students. They also found that our services to support learning are working really well and there are a wide range of mechanisms for learner engagement, which is having a positive impact on the student journey. Additional positive feedback showed that the College and Student Association are working well together, Curriculum Teams are responsive to feedback and that Evaluation within the College shows a strong picture and that good examples of improvements were demonstrated. The delegation also found that student outcomes are good, with some really positive PIs over the last two years. So, not only is this a thank you for your contributions this week to the visit, this is also a massive thank you for all of your hard work over the past two years!”
