Skills for Work Creative Industries students will show they are model learners by selling their work at a pop-up charity Christmas stall at the Falkirk Campus on the three Tuesdays before Christmas.

The stall will be set up in the reception area of the Falkirk Campus on Tuesday 6, 13, and 20 December, opening at 2.30pm until 3.30pm each day. The students will be selling handmade, and painted, Christmas gifts in the form of plaster models (pictured). There will be something for everyone at the stall, all made with love and care over the course of the past few months, with contributions from the entire class.

Nine students have taken part in the initiative: Anna Dewar, Eve Llewellyn, Henry Miller, Izzy Williams, Jack Paterson, Muskan Khalid, Rebecca Livingston, Rhys McCallum, and Tegan Longmuir, and all come from six different high schools across the area, and have worked together to present this stall in aid of FOSS, Friends of Scottish Settlers.

Based in Falkirk, this charity provides English lessons, temporary placement, and community activities for settlers, refugees and otherwise, in the area.

Art and Design Lecturer Angela McLaren, said: “The class has been working hard through the terms to complete work in the project, collaborating with each other to come up with ideas in the class.

“They have been working with a variety of materials, agreeing on using painted plaster. To do this, they had to learn to mix and use fine casting plaster and many different moulds that are now for sale.

“During the sale students are open to questions about the process of making the items, having worked together through the planning process through to the creation, to finally the sale this December. Their skills together have been amazing, and they’re sure to go on and achieve great things by the end of this year.”
